  • Clinical Psychologist, Psychology Dept. RVI & Newcastle General. This service is available regionally and can be accessed via Ward 25. Available to HIV+ people, families, partners and carers. Help with adjustment to major life changes, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties.

  • Dietician, Ward 25 (or Dietetics Dept.) Provides general dietary advice for those with HIV and also around any special needs with regards to HIV and combination therapies. Also provides info on managing symptoms, food supplements and build-up drinks.

Occupational Therapy Services

Available at both Newcastle General and the RVI. This service is regional and can be accessed via Occupational Therapy Services at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, or via the individual HIV care units. Offers advice and/or equipment to help maximise and maintain independence and comfort. Usually carried out in the home.

For issues specifically relating to haemophilia and HIV. Access to health and social care services, advocacy and advice on benefits. Also counselling specifically for children affected or bereaved.

TEESSIDE

Family Unit at Middlesbrough General Hospital

Aims to provide 'total care' for people affected by HIV and those who care for them. Services are confidential and focussed on the needs of the patient. There is a coffee morning every Friday, which offers a chance to socialise, and a Ladies' Club on alternate Wednesdays. Referral is preferably via your GP, the GUM clinic, or the Clinical Nurse Specialist
