Sex Work and Sexual Exploitation

Love and FriendshipSex Work and Sexual Exploitation (adult men and women) Tues 11th and Wed 12th September 2012. This two-day course explores current debates regarding sex work and sexual exploitation on a national and local level. Participants will gain knowledge and understanding about the nature of sex work in the local area. We will identify common features of the lives of individuals involved in sex work with particular regard to sexual health, and explore common stereotypes about men and women doing sex work. By the end of this course participants should be familiar with good practice guidelines working with men and women involved in sex work. The course has now been redesigned to cover a new area of work: the male sex industry in Newcastle – a client group many mainstream services struggle to engage with. Additional topics that will be covered on the course: MAP Male Action Project – Pilot study and MAP’s future, The diverse male sex industry in Tyneside, including a street market, Complex and multiple needs, Service provision for male sex workers, Links between addictions and homelessness – Sex for favours, Sexuality and identity, Isolation and stigma Target Group: This course is relevant to staff and volunteers from voluntary, statutory and independent agencies within Tyne and Wear whose work may bring them into contact with adult women and men who may be involved in sex work and/or subject to sexual exploitation.
